Advancement over X52:
~15% higher yield strength (from 358 to 414 MPa)
Allows 10-15% wall thickness reduction at same design pressure
Key Chemistry (wt%):
| Element | Target Range | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| C | 0.05-0.12% | Lower carbon than X52 for weldability |
| Mn | 1.25-1.40% | Primary solid solution strengthener |
| Nb | 0.03-0.06% | Key microalloy for grain refinement |
| V | 0.04-0.08% | Precipitation strengthening |
| Ti | 0.01-0.025% | HAZ grain growth control |
| P | ≤ 0.015% | Toughness control |
| S | ≤ 0.003% | Inclusion shape control |
| CE(IIW) | 0.38-0.42 | Higher than X52, requires controlled welding |
Metallurgical Highlights:
Alloy Design: "Low-C + High-Mn + Nb-V-Ti Microalloying"
Key Advancement: Achieves higher strength while maintaining weldability through reduced carbon and optimized microalloys.
Microstructure: Predominantly acicular ferrite (70-85%) with finer grains (3-8 μm) and fine Nb(C,N) precipitates (5-15 nm).
X60 provides a balanced strength-toughness upgrade from X52:
Strength: Significant increase suitable for higher-pressure lines.
Consideration: Higher carbon equivalent requires more controlled welding procedures than X52.
Position: Mainstream entry-grade for high-performance pipelines, widely used in high-pressure oil & gas transmission projects.
